Portugal VAT

We are delighted to announce that negotiations with the Portuguese government to adopt the Spanish SUCOE VAT system have already started!!!

We don’t know when or even if it will come into effect – but at least the government has proved receptive to a negotiation! The standard rate of VAT in Portugal is 23%. If negotiations are successful, Portugal would follow the same VAT exemption procedure as in Spain… that is:

  • In Spanish, SUCOE stands for “Servicio Único y Complejo de Organización de Evento” which translates as “Unique and Complex Single Service of Event Organization”.

    1. If you are organizing an event in Spain and choose a DMC to contract all the different services required, (accommodation, transport, meeting space, food and beverage, AV equipment, guides, translators, etc.) these elements, taken as a whole, can be treated as an integral service of event organization in terms of tax liability.

  1. This means that B2B operations involving companies that have the right to deduct or reclaim VAT can effectively run events VAT-free in Spain. The DMC pays the appropriate amount of VAT to the different suppliers and then reclaims it from the Spanish tax authorities. The customer is invoiced with NO VAT added.

The tapas bar is one of the key elements of the chef’s concept, based on his happiest childhood memories of Saturday visits to the market with his parents to buy fresh seafood, of early mornings playing ball with his father on Pozuelo beach, and of the first skewers of barbecued fish that he tasted.
