Destination Management Porto

Portugal’s second city. The heart of the city is a UNESCO Heritage site, and of course, it will always be associated with its production of Port Wine.

The larger conference style hotels are located to the west of the city centre.  These are complemented by venues with excellent meetings facilities such as a converted Customs House by the river to a contemporary art museum to a purpose-built conference and trade show facility.

Eating out is a way of life in Portugal, and the wide choice of restaurants in Porto thoroughly reflects this, offering a great choice of dining options at all levels. Fresh and salted fish (bacalhau) is strong point, as, for the less squeamish, is the local tripe speciality! And rivalry with Lisbon extends beyond the football pitch with Porto often boasting of their superior cuisine.

Wine tasting options are many – obviously the Port Wine Cellars in the city itself but excursions into the stunning Douro Valley are a must for many and allow for a fascinating insight into the whole wine-producing process.  Trips into the valley can be done by boat or alongside the river by train. Walking tours really bring the city to life and can be complemented by exclusive use of trams or the wonderful Rabelo boats which once transported the barrels of wine down to the city from the Douro.
